Reverend Yaw Poku was born in Accra, Ghana.  He is the son of Mr. Bediako-Poku, the former Ambassador to Israel and Russia and Grace Barker.  After the untimely passing of the Pastor’s mother at age 4, he was raised by his grandfather, Mr. James Barker.  Reverend Yaw credits his grandfather as the most influential person in his childhood because he planted the seed for the love of God in his heart.
In secondary School, Pastor Yaw received Christ into heart after hearing a message from Reverend Apek of the Assembly of God Church.  He was then discipled, mentored and grounded in the Christian faith by Missionary Danny Stamplin from the Southern Baptist Convention.  Pastor  Otu-Pimpong, Senior Pastor of Legion Baptist Church, groomed Reverend Poku for his pastoral calling as he became actively involved in prison ministry.
Reverend Poku holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, a Bachelor of Science degree in Missionary Aviation Technology from Moody Bible Institute and a Masters in Computer Science from DePaul
Reverend Poku is married to the lovely Dr. Vidalia Butler-Poku and has two beautiful children Phinehas and Hadassah.  His hobbies include witnessing and golfing.  His heart’s desire is to bring the lost to the redemptive grace of Jesus Christ.  He is a strong advocate for utilizing the gifts of the spirit and encourages everyone to show brotherly love.
One of his favorite scriptures is Luke 22:31-32 ” And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
